The Canadian Independent Record Production Association (CIRPA) has appointed Duncan McKie as its president and executive director, effective June 4. He replaces Cori Ferguson who stepped down as the trade organization’s executive director in late 2006.
With more than 160 member companies nationally, CIRPA is the collective voice of the English language, Canadian-owned independent sector of the Canadian recording industry.
“I am looking forward to the opportunity of working with a national association with the history and importance of CIRPA,” says McKie. “With the music industry today in such flux, CIRPA more than ever, needs to engage itself directly in both policy and trade initiatives.”
“With so many complex issues and challenges facing today’s Canadian music industry, we are extremely pleased to have someone with Duncan’s knowledge and experience in place to lead CIRPA,” adds Jim West, chair of CIRPA. “We are confident that he will provide CIRPA’s members with a strong and meaningful voice on all necessary issues.”
McKie is currently vice chairman of Canadian research company Pollara and has spent much of the past few years researching policy issues for the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA). Prior to Pollara, McKie worked closely with the Canadian radio industry in his capacity as senior VP of Client Services and Operations for BBM.
