Cingular Wireless is now offering its users ringtones that are clips of actual recorded music by original artists from Universal Music Group, BMG, Sony Music and EMI.
Moviso, the wireless entertainment unit of Bellevue, Wash.-based Infospace, is supplying Cingular with the ringtones.
Cingular is calling the ringers Music Tones, to distinguish them from synthesized ringtones that play melodies from hit songs.
Featured artists include UMG acts 50 Cent, Sting, Black Eyed Peas and Sheryl Crow; BMG acts Britney Spears, Kelis, Christina Aguilera and Clay Aiken; Sony Music acts Beyoncé, John Mayer, AC/DC and Jessica Simpson; and EMI acts Coldplay, Chingy, Jane’s Addiction and Norah Jones.
The Music Tones cost $2.49 each, and are available at cingularextras.com or directly from compatible Cingular phones through the Wireless Internet. Compatible phones include the Nokia 3300, Nokia 3600, Nokia 3650 and Motorola V400.
