Ciara will be heading to the studio later this year to start recording the follow-up to her 2004 Jive debut, “Goodies.” The singer is also opening 11 dates for Gwen Stefani’s Harajuku Lovers 2005 tour in December and has wrapped her first starring role in MTV Films’ “Rumble,” due out in early 2006. The film also features Adrienne Bailon of 3LW and Marques Houston.
For her sophomore disc, Ciara says the next step will be to gather her thoughts and start writing new material. “Every artist who is a veteran and has been in this for awhile always talks to me about the sophomore jinx,” the singer tells Billboard.com. “But once you get that second album done you feel so good.”
While “Goodies” featured production from Missy Elliott and Lil Jon, Ciara is hoping to enlist more heavyweights this time around, including Kanye West. “He’s very passionate about what he does,” she says. “There’s still more that I’d like to share with the world about me, and I get so deep at times, I think it would be crazy if we got together.”
In “Rumble,” a coming-of-age film about high school volleyball players, Ciara plays a 16-year-old student whose father is a professional basketball player. “He never comes to any of her volleyball games to support her, so you can kind of see her go through the emotions of that and try to figure out what she wants to do with her life,” she says. “Acting is something I always wanted to do, so of course when the opportunity presented itself, I said this is a chance for me to get started.”
As for the support slot on the Stefani tour, which kicked off earlier this month with the Black Eyed Peas as the opening act, Ciara enthuses, “It’s a great opportunity for me because it’s a different audience and will bring in new fans.”
