As the world continues to wade through troubled times both politically and socially, artists like Chronixx are utilizing their comforting music as a temporary escape. The 25-year-old Jamaican reggae artist has released his new video for “Skankin’ Sweet,” one of the fan favorites from his Grammy-nominated debut studio album Chronology.
Directed by Negril-born Storm Saulter, the video captures the pure joy that reggae music can bring to the world. It tells the story of three characters — a mature female doctor, a young office assistant and a male carpenter — who are all just trying to make it through their stressful days at work. Whether its bearing heartbreaking news to a patient’s family or trying to make a profit off furniture, the everyday struggles these people have to face are nothing short of relatable.
But once the day is complete, they transform their respective homes into a sanctuary as they cook, paint, dance and smile to the the infectious sounds of reggae. Chronixx makes an appearance towards the end of the clip, journeying through a lush oasis alongside the aforementioned characters.
“Skankin’ Sweet” follows previous singles “Likes,” “I Can” and “No Guarantee” — Chronixx’s collaboration with fellow Jamaican star Protoje. Chronology is the singer’s most successful project to date, peaking at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Reggae Albums chart following its release last July. He continues to trek on his Chronology world tour, which recently wrapped its Africa leg, and will be making his way to North America beginning Aug. 1.
