Christina Milian has blossomed into a true renaissance woman. After first turning heads with sultry R&B hits like “Dip It Low,” which set the Billboard charts ablaze when it was released in 2004, the 34-year-old performer has since added the titles of actress and entrepreneur to her resume. But for Milian, who will soon star as Magenta in Fox’s upcoming reboot of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the title of mother is the one she holds most dear.
“The number one thing that inspires me is my daughter and being a mom,” she tells Billboard. “She’s just taught me to see life with new eyes and have a whole new sense of wonder.”
Billboard, in collaboration with Silk’s #DoPlants campaign, chatted with Milian about the importance of living and eating healthily and how she passes along her plant-based lifestyle choices to her daughter.
Milian says her daughter loves food the same way that she does, and that the two “literally go in our yard and … I show her what it’s like to grow our own vegetables. There’s a sense of accomplishment when you not only are growing it, but when you eat it.”
Milian says her own parents instilled similar qualities in her when she was a child, and that her Cuban roots play a large role in her eating habits. “The times that we spend at home are usually spent in the kitchen,” she says. “Half our conversations have to do with food. So we do have a really great appreciation for nature’s finest.”
