After falling off Billboard’s Social 50 chart last week, Christina Grimmie re-emerges at No. 17, thanks to the success of two YouTube videos. On July 15, she covered Demi Lovato‘s latest single “Skyscraper,” pulling in 3 million views. This is a feat, considering that the official video by Lovato, which debuted on July 14, sits at 5.3 million views.
Then, Grimmie followed-up the cover with the video for her latest single, “Advice” — off of her debut album “Find Me” — on July 19. It has since racked up 1.1 million views, helping her YouTube weekly profile views jump from 137,500 to 276,000.
Lovato, who herself prances 22-12, announced in a live chat with fans on July 21 that her new album will be released on Sept. 20. As “Skyscraper’s” YouTube view count rises — so have her stats. This week she netted a 5.2 million plays, most of which went to her latest video. Her fanbase also grew by 229,000 fans, swelling on both Facebook (124,700) and Twitter (95,000).
The Social 50 ranks the most active artists on the world’s leading social networking sites — YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and iLike — using a formula blending weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with weekly artist page views and weekly song plays.

With the July 20 release of Pitbull‘s video for the song “Rain Over Me” — featuring Marc Anthony — the rapper charges 29-14 on the tally. In the first week out, the video garnered 14.3 million Vevo views. He also added 225,000 million Facebook fans — the 22nd-largest gain on the chart during the tracking week.
Through July, Justin Bieber lost his No. 1 position twice, first to girlfriend Selena Gomez (who moves 12-6 this week) and last week to Rihanna (1-2). He now reclaims the peak of the chart, with the largest gain in views (477,600) this week, among the top 50 acts.
Talking with The Hollywood Reporter on July 20, Bieber said that before he starts work on his second full-length studio album, the follow-up to 2010’s “My World 2.0,” he will be taking a full month off to “think, pray and just kind of grow up.”

In total, Bieber earned 525,600 fans — with Facebook (355,700) and Twitter (155,000) showing largest increases — as well as nearly 20 million Vevo plays.
Among the top 50 artists, fans played their favorite songs 416 million times across MySpace (1.5 million) and Vevo (415 million), respectively. In sum, 14 million fans opted to like, follow, friend, and subscribe to their favorite artists this week, adding up to a total of 11.2 million Facebook fans, 2.4 million Twitter followers, 127,800 MySpace friends, and 176,700 YouTube channel subscribers. This number of fans added across monitored sites is down from the 14.1 million fans added last week.
As for the rest of the top 10 this week, David Guetta zips 19-10, cracking the top 10 for the first time. The video for his latest single “Little Bad Girl” — featuring Taio Cruz and Ludacris — debuted on July 14 and has boomed to 9 million views. His newest album “Nothing But The Beat” is due out August 29.
Meanwhile, Lady Gaga rises 5-3, Akon climbs 14-5, and Michael Jackson steps 10-8. Shakira and Katy Perry both tumble two spots (Nos. 4 and 5, respectively) and Eminem slips 6-7.
