“My husband was the farthest thing from a rockstar junkie,” she told ABC’s Robin Roberts. “He was the best husband, the greatest father. I lost my soulmate and the love of my life.”
The 52-year-old Soundgarden frontman was found dead in a hotel room in Detroit on May 18, 2017, with the state’s coroner ruling the death as a suicide. In the teaser clip for the interview, Vicky discusses her husband’s addiction as a disease, and that there is often a negative connotation that comes along with the idea of an addict.
In an emotional moment with Roberts, Vicky says, “I don’t think that he could make any decisions because of the level of impairment. I know that people say ‘You can’t blame yourself’ and I’m trying not to, but there were signs.”
“People think that addiction is like, ‘Oh, you were an addict,'” she continued. “I was, I feel, guilty of the same thing. You think addiction is a choice and it’s not.”
Vicky’s full interview will air on Wednesday on Good Morning America. Watch the teaser below.
