“American Idol” champ David Cook has selected “Light On,” a co-write by Soundgarden/Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell and Hinder/Puddle Of Mudd collaborator Brian Howes, as the first single from his debut album.
The track debuts tomorrow (Sept. 24) on AOL and Sept. 30 on iTunes. It will begin impacting U.S. radio outlets this week.
Cook’s as-yet-untitled debut album is due Nov. 18 via 19 Recordings/RCA. It will likely include co-writes with Collective Soul’s Ed Roland, Our Lady Peace’s Raine Maida and Kara DioGuardi.
“I just want the record to be both eclectic and cohesive and have something to say,” Cook told Billboard in July. “The music is rock and it’s pretty undeniably me, which I’m retty excited about.” He added that “there’s gonna be some interesting twists and turns … that will keep people interested.”
