In a rare interview to promote his new “Don’t Wake Me Up” music video, Chris Brown visited BET’s “106 & Park” on Monday, and the star’s appearance wasn’t without its share of controversial comments.
When asked by a fan what his favorite lyric from any of his songs was, Brown grinned and asked, “Right now? Ya’ll wanna know something funny?” With a wink, the R&B star immediately broke into the chorus of “Birthday Cake (Remix),” his duet with former flame Rihanna.
Though the show’s host was clearly taken aback, members of Team Breezy in the audience howled with laughter as the star joked, “Nah, I’m playing, but that record…it’s good in the club,” taking a jab at earlier reports by the New York Post that Brown and Rihanna had been spotted making eyes at each other in a NYC nightclub the night before.
Later in the show, Brown showed support to up-and-coming artists who were making a splash on the scene. “Shout out to A$AP Rocky,” the singer said, adding, “I think his movement is dope.” He went on to list rappers including Big Sean, Tyga, Wiz Khalifa, and Meek Mill-who he had been rumored to be fighting with in recent weeks-among his current favorites.
With the release of Brown’s new album “Fortune” approaching (June 29), he made sure to steer the conversation back to the music.
“Everybody always shows their support, so I’ve gotta put 100% into my music,” he said. “I just wanna influence the world and inspire it to be better.”
