St. Louis rapper Chingy’s third album, “Hoodstar,” will now arrive Sept. 19 via Slot-A-Lot/Capitol, one week later than originally scheduled. As previously reported, the set features appearances by Three 6 Mafia, Choppa and Chingy’s cousin Spiffy and boasts production by Jermaine Dupri, Timbaland, the Trak Starz, Mannie Fresh and Mr. Collipark, among others.
The disc is split into two sides with different musical styles. While the “Hood” segment boasts edgier tracks such as “Hands Up” and “Cadillac Door,” “Star” features more club-oriented cuts like “Brand New Kicks” and “Dem Jeans.” The Dupri-produced lead single “Pullin’ Me Back” featuring Tyrese is currently No. 12 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
“Hoodstar” will be the follow-up to 2004’s PowerBallin,’ which peaked at No. 10 on The Billboard 200 and has sold more than 593,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
