There’s something so warm and tingly about Chet Porter‘s “Stay” featuring Chelsea Cutler. It feels like sitting next to a fire wrapped comfortably in a soft blanket made of stars. Maybe that’s because the story Cutler tells is one of a safe and comforting romance, and really, it was that story which dictated the direction of the track.
“I think that with most collaborations, the producer writes an instrumental and then reaches out to a vocalist to hop on afterwards, but this actually happened the other way around,” Porter says in an emailed statement. “I was in Dubai and Chelsea messaged me asking me if I wanted to produce around this demo she made. I finished most of the song that day and immediately had Foreign Family in mind. I showed my manager, but specifically said not to send it because it wasn’t quite there yet. I remember him hitting me back being like ‘sent,’ haha, and I freaked out like all-caps ‘OMG NO YOU BLEW IT.’”
Foreign Family is ODESZA’s musical collective, the dreamy duo’s way of giving musicians and visual artists a place to have their work seen and heard. You’d be nervous, too, if you sent something to ODESZA before you thought it was finished, but sometimes, that’s the push you need.
“When Spring came around, I was on tour with Big Wild and Jai Wolf when I got asked to open up for ODESZA on a few shows in California,” he continues. “That’s when they told me they wanted to release it.”
“Stay” is the 11th track to come out of the Foreign Family Collective, and you can listen to it right here exclusively. Check below for official Chet Porter tour dates. Tickets available online.
