Country superstar Kenny Chesney has included nine stadium dates on his tour route this year, including National Football League stadiums in Boston, Nashville, Seattle, Detroit and Tampa, Fla., and Major League Soccer stadiums in Dallas, Chicago, Columbus, Ohio, and Los Angeles.
The stadium dates will be part of the Road & the Radio tour, which begins with a March 23-24 stand at the Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio. Dierks Bentley and Sugarland or Carrie Underwood will support Chesney, with Big & Rich and Gretchen Wilson added to the stadium dates.
Stadium concerts are very expensive to produce and have become increasingly rare over the past decade. There hasn’t been a full-blown coast-to-cast stadium tour in years, but Chesney promoter Louis Messina maintains that the Chesney team makes the stadium dates work financially.
Chesney is among the most successful touring artists in any genre. Last year he grossed $63 million, fourth among all touring acts, and his attendance of 1.2 million was second only to U2.
