Kenny Chesney is the star of a new ad from Corona Extra that will begin airing on Sunday (May 18) during the Academy of Country Music Awards.
This is Chesney’s first appearance in a Corona ad, although the beer maker signed on as sponsor of Chesney’s 2008 “Poets and Pirates” tour last year.
In the 30 second spot a trail of bootprints in the sand lead to bare footprints. Chesney is then seen, with a Corona next to him, playing “Old Blue Chair” as waves gently lap in the background.
The commercial is scheduled to run on channels such as FX, ESPN and Great American Country. It was made by independent Cramer-Krasselt, Corona’s long time agency.
“From a creative point of view, our goal with Kenny is to make his integration with the Corona brand feel completely seamless, like it’s the most natural thing in the world,” said Marshall Ross, chief creative officer of Cramer-Krasselt, in a statement. “So the work we’re creating to promote this relationship feels purely Corona. And because Kenny has his own very real love and connection to island life, his comfort there shows.”
