Cherry Lane Music Publishing has signed film composer Hans Zimmer to a worldwide, long-term administration agreement covering his interests in about 500 tracks of his past work.
Included under the deal are Zimmer’s interest in tracks from films like “A Little Inside,” “The Borrowers,” “Equilibrium,” “Gladiator,” “The Pledge” and “With Friends Like These.” The agreement does not cover future works.
Zimmer won an Academy Award for his original score for “The Lion King” (1994) and received six Oscar nominations. He won Grammy Awards for best instrumental composition written for motion picture or television for “Crimson Tide” (1995); best musical album for children for “The Lion King” soundtrack (1994); and best instrumental arrangement with vocal for “Circle of Life” (1994).
Joel Sill, Cherry Lane’s joint venture partner, brought the deal to the publisher. Sill also brought certain rights of Quincy Jones to the publisher last year.
“I have had the good fortune to know Hans as a friend and as a professional,” Sill says. “I watch and listen in amazement as he reinvents himself for each project. On every film he searches until he finds his muse and when he finds it, it ignites his scores with music that always enhances the film. The list of directors he has and continues to work with is a testament to his creativity.”
Cherry Lane CEO Peter Primont announced the deal.
