Cher, P!nk and more celebrities took to Twitter on Friday (Nov. 9) to share stories, resources on missing people and express gratitude for the brave firefighters working to put out the rapidly growing fires in California.
“Poor Malibu my beloved home,” wrote Cher in a tweet. “I’m worried about my house but my heart is broken for people who have lost everything.”
According to the Los Angeles Times, four separate fires have destroyed more than 2,000 structures and killed five people. The fires began early Thursday with Northern California’s Butte County “Camp Fire” spreading rapidly, quickly obliterating the town of Paradise. On Friday morning, the Woolsey fire and Griffith Park fires had forced evacuations throughout Los Angeles and its bordering towns, including the entire town of Malibu. The hill fire followed soon after, spreading through canyons to Camarillo Springs and California State Channel Islands, both of which were completely evacuated.
Celebrities turned to social media to thank the firefighters for their relief efforts, as well as share updates on their current situation. “Evacuated last night,” wrote director Guillermo Del Toro on Twitter. “Bleak House and the collection may be endangered but the gift of life remains. Thousand Oaks and Agoura are still in danger.”
“Just need to say THANK YOU to all of the firefighters,” P!nk wrote. “All of the first responders. All of the helpers. The thing to look for in tragedy is all of the helpers. We’re all so grateful for your bravery and selflessness.”
