Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’ Atop Hot 100 for Third Week
— Usher: The crooner charts the first two singles from his seventh studio album, “Looking for Myself,” due June 12. Slow jam “Climax” reaches a new Hot 100 peak (20-18) (and leads Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for a third week), while the uptempo pop/dance-leaning “Scream” enters at No. 70. The latter song begins on Hot 100 Airplay at No. 59 (20 million audience impressions, according to Nielsen BDS) and Hot Digital Songs at No. 62 (30,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan).

— Ellie Goulding: “Lights” reaches the top 40 at last (49-40) in its 19th chart week, aided by a 32-28 lift on Hot Digital Songs (55,000, up 7%) and a No. 69 debut on Hot 100 Airplay (17 million, up 26%). The song completes the longest climb to the Hot 100’s top 40 by a woman since Taylor Swift’s “Teardrops on My Guitar” also needed 19 frames to reach the region in 2007.
— Linkin Park: After “Burn It Down” roared in at No. 30 last week, the song plummets to No. 62, experiencing a 60% second-week decrease to 46,000 downloads sold. The first single from the band’s fifth studio album, “Living Things,” due June 26, also dips 2-3 in its second week on Rock Songs (10 million, down 14%). Such declines aren’t uncommon for the group, which has a history of event-status openings before sales and airplay level off to more steady levels. “The Catalyst,” the lead single from its last album, 2010’s “A Thousand Suns,” also registered such second-week losses following an impressive first frame (while, like, “Burn,” remaining in the Rock Songs upper reaches).
— “Glee” Cast: Following the Fox TV series’ April 24 tribute episode to Whitney Houston, two covers of the late singer’s songs bow: “How Will I Know” (No. 65) and “It’s Not Right But It’s Okay” (No. 92). The cast’s seven Houston covers released last week sold a combined 245,000 downloads in their opening week. With the two debuts, the troupe extends its record count to 202 career Hot 100 hits.
— Rihanna: After charting at No. 65 in the Dec. 10, 2011, issue, when parent album “Talk That Talk” entered the Billboard 200 at No. 3, “Where Have You Been” returns at No. 78, now as a promoted single. It debuts on Hot 100 Airplay at No. 64 (18 million in audience, up 74%) and jumps 36-26 on Mainstream Top 40.
