As previously reported, Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” reaches No. 1 on the Hot Digital Songs chart, and No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, while Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know,” featuring Kimbra, spends a sixth week at No. 1 on the Hot 100. Here’s a look at other notable chart action this week.
— Rihanna: Rising 18-13, “Where Have You Been” passes the No. 14-peaking “You Da One” to become the second-highest-charting hit from her album “Talk That Talk.” It’s lead single “We Found Love,” featuring Calvin Harris, spent 10 weeks at No. 1. Two other songs from the set have reached the top 40: the title track, featuring Jay-Z (No. 31), and “Birthday Cake,” featuring Chris Brown (No. 24).

— David Guetta featuring Sia: “Titanium” looks to have all the elements of a hit, as it flies 46-30. The track jumps 38-22 on Hot Digital Songs (68,000 downloads, up 43%, according to Nielsen SoundScan) and 69-54 on Hot 100 Airplay (21 million audience impressions, up 30%, according to Nielsen BDS). It debuts on On-Demand Songs at No. 47 (242,000 on-demand streams, up 5%, according to BDS).
— Grouplove: Following the “Glee” Cast’s cover of Grouplove’s “Tongue Tied” on the Fox series’ May 15 episode, the original returns at No. 74, fueled by a 127% increase to 27,000 downloads sold. The TV ensemble concurrently sends 10 titles onto the Pop Digital Songs chart, with those titles combining for 239,000 in download sales.
— Kenny Chesney & Tim McGraw: “Feel Like a Rock Star,” which reached No. 40 on the Hot 100 (dipping 65-83 this week), falls 11-18 on Hot Country Songs, marking Chesney’s first single to miss that chart’s top 10 since 2001, ending a streak of 31 consecutive top 10 promoted singles (excluding holiday tracks and featured billings that missed the region).
Most striking is that “Rock Star” peaked at No. 11 on Hot Country Songs after debuting six weeks ago at a lofty No. 13, the second-highest entrance of the chart’s 22-year Nielsen BDS era.
Why the fast start and subsequent rapid loss of momentum? As the track was an acknowledged event single, ushered in with the help of coordinated first-week airplay on more than 120 Clear Channel stations and a highly-rated performance on the April 1 ACM Awards on CBS, country radio programmers for the most part got the quick-hit fanfare from the song for which they had hoped. Of course, bigger things loom for Chesney and McGraw: the stars team up for their highly-anticipated Brothers of the Sun tour beginning June 2.
— Gym Class Heroes featuring Ryan Tedder: Though OneRepublic frontman Tedder has no plans to release a solo album (Billboard, May 26), he charts his second Hot 100 entry apart from the group, as “The Fighter” checks in at No. 95. Tedder reached No. 7 as a featured artist on Far*East Movement’s “Rocketeer” in February 2011.
