— Florida Georgia Line: As it pushes 6-4 on the Hot 100, “Cruise” logs a 17th week atop Hot Country Songs, the most for any title since Leroy Van Dyke’s “Walk On By” spent 19 weeks in the chart’s penthouse in 1961-62. With 21 weeks apiece, the all-time record for the most weeks atop the 69-year-old chart (including its various early versions) is a three-way tie among Eddy Arnold’s “I’ll Hold You in My Heart (Till I Can Hold You in My Arms)” (1947), Hank Snow’s “I’m Moving On” (1950) and Webb Pierce’s “In the Jailhouse Now” (1955).
“Cruise” leads with Airplay Gainer (up 6%) and Streaming Gainer (3.1 million streams, up 8%, according to Nielsen BDS) honors in its 48th week on Hot Country Songs. The track also dominates for an 18th cumulative week on Country Digital Songs, where the remix with rapper Nelly accounts for 165,000 of the 244,000 total downloads it sold last week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It reaches a new peak at No. 11 on the Adult Top 40 chart and holds at No. 8 after peaking at No. 7 last week on Mainstream Top 40 (although with a new peak in plays this week on the latter chart).
— OneRepublic: The band lands its highest Hot 100 debut (No. 32), as the “Counting Stars,” which it performed with contestant Michelle Chamuel on “The Voice” (June 18), gains by 723% to 112,000 downloads sold. Chamuel, meanwhile, bows at Nos. 92 and 98 with covers of 1992 hits by Annie Lennox (“Why”) and U2 (“One”), respectively.
— Phillip Phillips: As “Gone, Gone, Gone” climbs 43-36, the singer/songwriter becomes the first “American Idol” champion to score a pair of top 40 Hot 100 hits from a debut album since David Cook (“The Time of My Life,” “Light On”) five years ago. Phillips’ prior breakout single “Home” peaked at No. 6 in January.
— John Mayer: Ahead of the start of his first tour in three years following his recovery from vocal surgery, Mayer blasts onto Hot Rock Songs at No. 10, and the Hot 100 at No. 77, with “Paper Doll.” The song previews his sixth studio album, Paradise Valley, due Aug, 13. It starts at No. 3 on Rock Digital Songs with 51,000 downloads sold. With a lyric video for it released on June 18, the song logged 493,000 U.S. streams in the June 19-25 tracking week. (The quirky clip features Joanna Rohrback, inventor of the walk-and-work out “prancercise” exercise program.
Mayer kicks off his “Born and Raised” world tour on July 6 in Milwaukee. The 40-stop U.S. trek runs through early October before heading to Europe, wrapping at London’s Wembley Arena on Oct. 26.
— Britney Spears: Aided by a premiere on the syndicated “On-Air With Ryan Seacrest” and hourly plays on Clear Channel stations (June 17), the “Smurfs 2” soundtrack single “Ooh La La” enters at No. 68 on both Hot 100 Airplay (17 million; powered by a No. 22 launch on Mainstream Top 40) and Hot Digital Songs (31,000). On the Hot 100, it opens at No. 85.
— Rihanna: As it jumps 31-26 on Mainstream Top 40, “Right Now,” featuring David Guetta, marks Rihanna’s 43rd Hot 100 hit (debuting at No. 90), the ninth-best sum among women. Aretha Franklin leads with 73, followed by Taylor Swift (58), Madonna, Dionne Warwick (56 each), Connie Francis (53), Brenda Lee (48), Nicki Minaj (46) and Mariah Carey (45).
