
R&B crooner Tank debuts his fifth studio album, “This Is How I Feel,” at No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart with 33,000 sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It’s the Washington, D.C., native’s third album to bow at No. 1, following the path of his debut, “Force of Nature” (98,000 in its first week in 2001), and “Sex, Love & Pain” (103,000 in 2007).
The new set’s first single, “Next Breath,” rises 39-27 on R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, earning a 40% rise in radio audience, according to Nielsen BDS. Concurrently, the song picks up the Greatest Gainer accolade on the Adult R&B songs chart.
After its debut week at No. 1, B.o.B‘s “Strange Clouds” slips to No. 2 on R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, down 67% from last week. With sales of 25,000, the set misses the No. 1 mark by 8,000 copies.
Gospel duo Mary Mary arrives at No. 3 on the survey with “Go Get It,” a soundtrack/compilation album that includes previously released songs, as well as new music inspired by the sisters’ eponymous WE TV reality series. The set starts with 19,000, while its title track jumps 60-45 on R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.
Nicki Minaj‘s sophomore album “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded” drops 2-4 (18,000 with a 14% spill) and Rihanna‘s “Talk That Talk” rounds out the chart’s the top five (12,000, up 1%).
‘SEE’ WHAT USHER’S UP TO?: On R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, Usher remains at No. 1 with “Climax,” giving him chart sovereignty for a fifth consecutive week. It’s the first time that he’s surpassed a four weeks on top since “Yeah,” featuring Lil Jon, led for eight weeks in 2004.
“Lemme See” (featuring Rick Ross), the second single geared toward R&B/hip-hop radio from Usher’s upcoming album “Looking 4 Myself,” is meanwhile bestowed the Greatest Gainer/Airplay award on R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, shooting 45-26 and thickening by 80% to 9 million in audience. Among stations that propelled “Lemme See” forward, KBXX Houston blazed the trail with 1.1 million impressions. (On the Billboard Hot 100, Usher’s current pop single “Scream” soars 46-25).
Rihanna’s “Birthday Cake,” featuring Chris Brown, ranks at No. 2 for a fifth frame on R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, suffering a 3% slide to 29 million in total listenership. Despite a similar percentage slip, Young Jeezy stays grounded for a second week at No. 3 with “Leave You Alone,” featuring Ne-Yo (24 million, down 2%).
LoveRance‘s “UP!” likewise holds at No. 4 (24 million, up 2%) and Ca$h Out‘s “Cashin Out” reaches a new peak, shimmying 7-5. The money-minded song rises by 13% with 23 million in audience (or, 46 million devoted ears). On Rap Songs, the track swells 7-6 as the list’s Greatest Gainer.
