‘BURNIN” LOVE: As hot as the Jonas Brothers have been, the trio has never had a top 10 single on The Billboard Hot 100 until this week. “Burnin’ Up” (Hollywood) is a freshman at No. 5, making it the act’s highest-debuting and highest-peaking song. The outfit’s highest new entry before “Burnin’ Up” was “Play My Music,” which opened at No. 20 just last week. The brothers’ highest-charting song before this week was “S.O.S.,” which peaked at No. 17 in September 2007. The Jonas Brothers have had six chart entries to date since making their first appearance on this survey the week of Feb. 17, 2007, with “Year 3000.” Here is a recap of those six titles, in order of peak position, along with peak date:

“Burnin’ Up” is the second highest new entry of 2008, runner-up to “American Idol” victor David Cook, whose “The Time of My Life” bowed at No. 3 the week of June 7. Only 12 songs have started their chart lives in the top five this millennium; four of those debuted at No. 1 and all were by “American Idol” singers: Clay Aiken, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood and Taylor Hicks. Nine of the 12 are “Idol”-related.

“Burnin’ Up” is the highest new entry in the history of Hollywood Records. The label’s previous champ: “Leavin'” by Jesse McCartney, which jumped onto the chart at No. 14 the week of May 17. The Jonas Brothers will have to ride this new single to No. 1 if they want to give their imprint its highest-ranking title. In May 1992, Hollywood’s re-issue of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” sang its way to No. 2.
Here are the four songs issued on the Hollywood label that have cracked the top five of the Hot 100:

While “Burnin’ Up” is thre Jonas Brothers’ first top 10 hit, middle brother Joe Jonas has two top 10 hits to his credit, as his “Camp Rock” duet with Demi Lovato, “This Is Me” (Walt Disney), rises 11-9 in its second chart week.
BOOGIE SUGARLAND: Country duo Sugarland boogies its way to a new peak position on the Hot 100. A 91-19 leap for “All I Want to Do” (Mercury) beats the No. 32 postings for “Want To” in November 2006 and “Stay” in November 2007.
At the same time, another Sugarland track, a remake of the Dream Academy’s “Life in a Northern Town,” hops onto the chart at No. 43. The song is billed to Sugarland featuring Little Big Town and Jake Owen. “Northern” represents the best showing for Little Big Town on the Hot 100, surpassing the No. 46 peak of “Boondocks” in January 2006. “Northern” does the same for Owen, whose two previous chart entries (“Yee Haw” in August 2006 and “Startin’ With Me” in July 2007) both stalled at No. 83.
Sugarland’s cover of “Life in a Northern Town” is off to a faster start than the original. The Dream Academy’s single entered at No. 89 the week of Nov. 30, 1985, ultimately peaking at No. 7 the week of Feb. 22, 1986.
SEVENTH HEAVEN: Cathy Dennis has to be excited about this – she’s earned her seventh top 10 hit on the Hot 100 and her first No. 1. Dennis is one of the writers of Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl” (Capitol).
Dennis collected three top 10 hits as an artist. She also received songwriting credit on all three:
No. 2: “Touch Me (All Night Long)” (May 18, 1991)
No. 8: “Too Many Walls” (Sept. 21, 1991)
No. 9: “Just Another Dream” (Feb. 2, 1991)
Focusing her efforts on songwriting instead of performing, Dennis picked up four more top 10 hits, including her latest:
