WONDERFUL ‘WONDERFUL’: The only new entry in the top 10 of Billboard’s Hot 100 this week is “Wonderful” (The Inc./Def Jam), a Ja Rule song that features R. Kelly and Ashanti. Between them, these three artists have racked up 27 different top 10 hits, including three that feature Ja Rule and Ashanti together.
“Wonderful” is Ja Rule’s eighth top 10 title. His first was “Always on Time,” which was No. 1 for two weeks in 2002 for Ja Rule and Ashanti. “Wonderful” is Ashanti’s 10th top 10 hit, also counting back to “Always on Time.”
R. Kelly now has 13 top 10 hits to his credit. His first was “Bump N’ Grind,” which was No. 1 for four weeks in 1994.
‘MOM’ KNOWS BEST: Lonestar’s “Mr. Mom” (BNA) is the group’s ninth No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles & Tracks tally. The band was last on top with “My Front Porch Looking In,” which spent one week in pole position in July 2003.
On the Hot 100, “Mr. Mom” holds at No. 35, Lonestar’s highest-charting song since “Front Porch” peaked at No. 23 in June 2003.
FAMILY AFFAIR: The Levert family is responsible for two new entries on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks list. Gerald Levert makes his 29th R&B chart appearance with the debut of “One Million Times” (Atlantic) at No. 71.
Just three rungs lower, Gerald’s father, Eddie Levert, Sr., also has a new entry. The new O’Jays song, “Make Up” (Music World/Sanctuary Urban), is the veteran act’s 60th chart entry, counting back to the May 1965 debut of “Lipstick Traces (On a Cigarette).”
