DOUGH RE: ‘ME’: Enough people purchased the newly-released commercial single of Nickelback’s “How You Remind Me” (Roadrunner) to send the single up two notches on The Billboard Hot 100, from No. 3 to No. 1. It’s the first song on the Roadrunner label to top the chart, but then, this is the first title on the Roadrunner label to ever appear on the chart.
“How You Remind Me” replaces Usher’s “U Got It Bad” (Arista) at No. 1, which is ironic considering that Usher’s other No. 1 hit of the year was the similarly-titled “U Remind Me.”
OVER THE CLIFF: Steve Young of Hull, England, notes that Cliff Richard returns to the U.K. singles chart at No. 11 with his 125th hit, a medley from his latest cover-versions album. “Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World” is the first single from Richard’s “Wanted” (Papillion).
Richard last charted with “The Millennium Player,” a No. 1 hit in December 1999. He has more hits than any other artist in the history of the U.K. singles chart, with Elvis Presley in second place with 113.
By debuting at No. 11, this latest single just fails to become Cliff`s 65th top-10 hit. He still remains eight ahead of nearest rival Presley again, who managed 56.
Cliff made his first appearance on the U.K. singles chart with “Move It,” which debuted the week of Sept. 12, 1958, ultimately reaching No. 2. His latest chart excursion means he now has a singles chart span of 43 years and three months.
This puts Cliff in third place for the longest span of new hits, and in fifth place overall, which takes re-issues into account.
