Charlie Puth’s smash duet with Selena Gomez, ‘We Don’t Talk Anymore,’ was inspired by food poisoning. That’s right, food poisoning.
Puth appeared in a Apple Music Beats 1 clip on Monday (May 14), where he answered a bunch of music related questions, one of which being “What’s the strangest thing that inspired your music?”
“I was overseas one time and got this horrible stomach pain just from this underc ooked food,” he replied. “As I was moaning in bed in my hotel room, I came up with this really good song idea. And that song idea was ‘We Don’t Talk Anymore,’ which is kind of strange.”
The singer also mentioned that Amy Schumer is a fan of his songs, as well as his three music must-haves. He even discussed the songs that make him cry. “A lot,” he admitted.
“‘All By Myself’ by Celine Dion, the David Foster arrangement. Before the third chorus, she’s singing in A-major and its all acapella and you’re like ‘Are they gonna do something?'” he gushes while motioning air-drums. Watch the full clip below.
