Charli XCX released her lovely debut album, “True Romance,” less than six months ago, but she’s already moved on to promoting her sophomore LP. “SuperLove” is the first single from that upcoming full-length, and its colorful video was premiered on Thursday (Sept. 26).
“SuperLove” doubles down on the luxurious alt-pop and drug metaphors of “True Romance” highlights like “Take My Hand” and “Black Roses,” as Charli spits lines like “Wanna fall into your SuperLove, yeah my heart never wants it to stop, please save me!” in double-times. The music video was filmed in Tokyo’s Robot Restaurant, and ends with Ms. XCX presiding over a disorganized biker gang.
“’SuperLove’ is a song about running away and falling in love with someone and it being really dangerous and bad for you but still amazing, romantic and wonderful,” says the 21-year-old in a press statement. The new song was apparently influenced by artists like the Waitresses and Bow Wow Wow, which thoroughly whets our appetite for Charli’s next album, due out in 2014.
