Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ Chad Smith took part in a humorously fitting challenge Thursday (Mar. 8)—eating a hot chili pepper.
The drummer is the latest celebrity to take part in the #ALSPepperChallenge, an awareness movement for the neurological disease that comes as a follow up to the #ALSIceBucketChallenge from a few years back.
“The ironic thing is, I don’t like chili peppers,” Smith joked in a video he posted to Twitter. “I’m not a fan of a hot pepper.”
He challenged Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready and Will Ferrell to partake in the hashtag before he scarfs down a chili pepper from the produce section of Whole Foods, coughing until the video cuts off.
“Steve Gleason I (reluctantly) accept your #ALSPepperChallenge,” he wrote in the clip’s caption, referencing former NFL player Steve Gleason, who struggles with ALS. Watch the clip below.
