Celine Dion will make her mainland China debut on April 13 at a Beijing concert marking the start of official celebrations leading up to the 2008 summer Olympics, which are being held in the Chinese capital.
The concert will take place at Beijing’s newly refurbished, 70,000-capacity Workers Stadium as part of Dion’s “Taking Chances” world tour. It was announced in Beijing today by Jonathan Krane, CEO of Shanghai-based ticketing and promotion company Emma Ticketmaster, and Kan Ke, deputy director of the Culture and Activities Department of the Beijing Olympics organizing committee (BOCOG).
“I am excited for my first-ever Beijing concert in April,” said Dion in a video shown at the press conference. “I can’t wait to see everyone in Beijing, and wish Beijing good luck with the upcoming 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.”
“We are happy to partner with BOCOG to present an exciting Celine Dion concert to Beijing,” said Krane. “As ticket sales start today, we look forward to presenting an extraordinary event for the city of Beijing.”
Emma Ticketmaster was formed when U.S-based Ticketmaster acquired a majority stake in Hong Kong-based Emma Entertainment Holdings in May 2007.
