Celeste has scored a spot in a much-coveted Super Bowl ad for Inspiration4 — an initiative advertising the chance for civilians to travel to outer space. With Super Bowl LV slated for this Sunday (Feb. 7), the soulful singer lends her vocals to the commercial with a cover of the children’s classic “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.”
Directed by actor Bryce Dallas Howard, the ad is a 30-second clip soundtracked by Celeste’s rendition of the lullaby and features scenes of a space suit hovering above Earth. For the rising star, landing a placement in the Super Bowl ad is a full-circle moment.
“‘Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star’ is something my mum always used to sing to me when I was young,” she recalls. “This sounds a bit silly, but when I was younger, I asked her: ‘What are you before you’re a person?’ Then she used to be like, ‘Oh, everyone’s just a star in the sky.’ So the song has been imprinted quite vividly in my memory. It’s been surreal to be asked to do the advert.”
Celeste (born Celeste Epiphany Waite) is joining big names — such as Post Malone, Lenny Kravitz and Nick Jonas — who have also landed major Super Bowl syncs. Hers continues an eventful start to 2021, with a best song Golden Globe nomination for “Hear My Voice” from Aaron Sorkin’s The Trial of the Chicago 7 and the release of her debut album Not Your Muse on Jan. 29.
