CeeLo Green will add a little quirky soul to the holiday season with “CeeLo’s Magic Moment,” his debut Christmas full-length, set for an Oct. 30 release on Elektra Records. More details of the release, including the album artwork displaying Green as a tricked-out Santa Claus, were unveiled on Thursday (Sept. 20).
The “Voice” coach has tapped a truly unique list of collaborators for the 14-track album: Rod Stewart, who’s readying his own Christmas album for the same release date, will duet on “Merry Christmas, Baby”; a cappella group Straight No Chaser climbs aboard for a re-imagining of “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch”; and Green’s NBC co-star, Christina Aguilera, will trade lines with the R&B star on “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.” Most impressively, The Muppets — er, that’s Disney’s The Muppets — will graciously pop up on “All I Need is Love.”
Cee Lo Green Tapped for NFL Song
Green said in a recent interview that the album is a “soulful take on a host of Christmas classics.” Other songs include “White Christmas,” “Silent Night,” “What Christmas Means To Me” and “Run Rudolph Run.”
On Oct. 10, Stewart and The Muppets will join Green for “CeeLo and Friends,” a special performance at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, where Green will set up his “Loberace” residency in early 2013. The show will be filmed and premiere on Warner Music Group’s YouTube channel on Nov. 26.
Earlier this week, it was announced that Usher and Shakira would be taking over for Aguilera and Green on “The Voice” when season 4 premieres next spring. Both of the original coaches plan to return for season 5 next fall.
