Johnny Cash’s plans to attend the MTV Video Music Awards tonight (Aug. 28) in New York were scuttled by his hospitalization in Nashville for an unspecified stomach ailment. He was in stable condition today. “He’s being held for observation and treatment. We expect to release him within a few days,” said a Baptist Hospital spokesperson. Cash was admitted to the hospital on Monday.
Cash’s manager, Lou Robin, said the illness was an “isolated incident.” He said the artists plans to go to Los Angeles next week to record a new album, which, six awards at tonight’s VMAs, including best video. Robin said Cash would watch the on television.
