“American Idol” champ Carrie Underwood has revealed extensive tour plans for the rest of 2006. At deadline, the roadwork will begin April 5 in Wilmington, N.C., and continue through Oct. 1 in Springfield, Mass.
Sprinkled in are a number of special events, including the CMA Music Festival in Nashville (June 10), Country Jam USA in Grand Junction, Colo. (June 24) and an appearance at Milwaukee’s annual Summerfest (July 8).
Underwood is touring in support of her Arista Nashville debut, “Some Hearts,” which has sold more than 2.2 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The single “Jesus, Take the Wheel” recently spent six weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, where it is No. 6 this week.
The artist will return to “American Idol” tonight (March 2) to perform the track. Other upcoming appearances include March 13 on CBS’ “The Late Show With David Letterman” and the following day on the syndicated “Live With Regis & Kelly.”
Additionally, Underwood will join Loretta Lynn, Lorrie Morgan and Lee Ann Womack for a March 18 show at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry as part of the Great American Country channel’s Women of Country series. The event will air live on GAC; an online auction at Opry.com will benefit the Susan G. Kamen Breat Cancer Foundation.
