Carrie Underwood suffered a serious fall while walking up the stairs outside her home last year, which resulted in 40 to 50 stitches on her face. In a recent interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the country singer disclosed some details on the incident.
“I just kinda went inside and I didn’t realize how bad it was,” she explained, noting that her 3-year-old son was sleeping in the house at the time. “I feel like any time anything happens, it’s adrenaline and you don’t really know until you take a second to assess. I just have great people around me, so I had someone come pick me up.”
She also talked about why she chose to open up about the accident, expressing concern that people would notice a difference in her face and assume that she made changes “electively.”
Underwood, who is pregnant with her and husband Mike Fisher’s second child, wore a pink cape to the interview, which led to a conversation about the gender of her baby. The superstar said she knows whether it’s a boy or girl, but likes “to just hold on to things for a minute.”
Ellen then tried to pry information out of her, ultimately guessing that a baby girl is on the way–which Underwood replied with a poker face. Watch below.
