Big bass boy Papi Gordo, aka El Diablo, aka leader of the Chipotle gang, aka DJ and producer Carnage has undergone some kind of soul revival. He took a hiatus in late 2018 to do a little soul searching in the mountains of Central America and Asia, and after four months, he’s re-emerged with an arsenal of super-powered jams that hit deeper, boomed harder and pushed Carnage’s sound further than it had ever been.
Today, his third single of the year, “Holy Moly” gets a music video that undergoes its own weird soul search – but this one begins and ends with blood.
“Holy Moly” is a wild three-and-a-half-minute ride with all the highly-produced trappings of a feature film. It could be a perfect horrow-gore film, complete with hyper-violence and brawling women of the cloth. The plot vaguely mirrors that of the fictional-film Blood Sister: One Tough Nun, from David Foster Wallace’s Infinite Jest. Maybe that’s what Carnage was up to while he was out there finding his inner voice?
It’s funny. It’s horrifying. It’s like no electronic dance music video we’ve ever seen before. “Holy Moly” is out everywhere on Carnage’s Heavyweight Records and Empire Music on Friday, Aug. 16, but the music video just premiered on YouTube, and you can check it out below.
