Cardi B and Offset celebrated the first birthday of their daughter, Kulture, with a ton of family, friends and rainbow cake in New York City on Saturday (July 13) — and even a city-wide power outage couldn’t derail their fun.
The party was impacted by a blackout in that covered a wide swath of Manhattan, which Cardi recalled on Instagram shortly after the festivities: “The fact that I wanted my daughter party in 42nd street instead of Jersey and to my f–king luck New York had a power outage right on that Deum area!! BITCH THE DEVIL!”
Thankfully, the guests didn’t disperse when the lights went out, and the power came back on just in time for the cake to be cut. Offset posted videos of a smiling Kulture sitting in a pile of birthday cake and offering fistfuls fo the colorful pastry to those gathered around her, and Cardi praised their loved ones for refusing to let the stressful situation, complete with a lack of air conditioning, bring down the mood.
“It was y’all that made it lit,” she said in a brief video message. “Y’all made it lit because, the fact that when I got there, the lights went off at the party, it was like a whole hour with no lights, no music. But it was still lit!”
She continued to praise her family and friends on Instagram, too, and was clearly moved by the love they showed her little girl: “I know my daughter won’t remember this day but when she older and have her kids this will be a good story to tell.”
