Cardi B, Bobby Shmurda, Noname and more are showing support to Haiti following the people’s continued plea for peace in the nation.
Last Friday, a botched anti-gang operation in Port-au-Prince’s Village of God slum, which is run by the 5 Seconds gang, left an unknown number of Haitian National Police officers dead and eight injured, according to The Associated Press. The incident has continued fueling Haitian protesters’ demands for new democratic elections and the resignation of current President Jovenel Moïse following years of corruption claims.
Haitian protesters received all-star backing from the Jamaican-American rapper Shmurda, who showed “love to all my Zoes” on Saturday and shared a link to Karen Civil’s Hike for Haiti fundraiser with Hope for Haiti, which plans to donate 100% of the proceeds to “education, teacher training, health education, school gardens, and reforestation.”
For anyone needing more context on the situation, Noname shared a 13-minute mini-doc from Vice that was released on Friday, the same day as the operation, that sheds light on the increased kidnapping, murder and overall suppression of the people happening under Moïse’s reign.
