Canadian music legend Joni Mitchell and country pioneer Wilf Carter are among the songwriters to be inducted Jan. 28, 2007 into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in Toronto.
In addition, five of Mitchell’s classic songs are among the 25 songs being inducted, including “Help Me,” “Big Yellow Taxi,” “Woodstock”, “You Turn Me On, I’m a Radio” and “Both Sides Now” (a.k.a. “Clouds”).
Other Canadian music legends being inducted at the black-tie gala include: Quebec chanteur Jean-Pierre Ferland; New Brunswick lyricist Henry Burr; prolific Broadway and Hollywood lyricist Raymond Egan from Windsor, Ontario; and Montreal impresario Sam Gesser.
The 72-year-old Ferland will see five of his songs inducted: “Ton visage,” “Un Peu plus haut un peu plus loin,” “T’es mon amour, t’es ma maitresse,” “Le Petit roi” and “Je reviens chez nous.”
Also being inducted are the Canadian-penned classics “Spinning Wheel” (written by David-Clayton-Thomas), “Le Frigidaire” (Georges Langford) and “You Were on My Mind” (Sylvia Tyson)
The gala will be broadcast nationally in Canada on CBC Radio on Jan. 29 and nationally on CBC-TV in March 2007.
