Devastating fires are raging at a record rate in Brazil’s Amazon rainforest, and the tragedy is blowing up throughout social media. A number of celebrities have been posting their thoughts, hoping to spread awareness and shed light on climate change.
Camila Cabello is the latest, sharing on Wednesday (Aug. 21) an image of the forest ablaze. “this is heartbreaking and terrifying,” she wrote with heartbroken emojis. “This makes me want to cry with frustration. what are we DOING? We’re literally destroying our miracle of a home.”
“I’m so sorry, earth,” she continued. According to CNN, there have been 72,843 fires in Brazil this year, more than half of which are in the Amazon region–a more than 80% increase compared with the same period last year.
