Chicago rapper Cam O’bi is soaring to new heights on his new single “Perfect,” available below exclusively via Billboard.
The song takes flight with an assist from fellow Chicago-based artist theMind as the duo spans time and space on a metaphorical plane before it begins to spin out and a new fire is sparked. The chaotic freefall that ensues allows the pair to see the world from an elevated perspective that reveals the beauty inside and around them.
“People love tossing around the old, trite myth ‘nobody’s perfect,’ but when you consider the Earth with its unruly forests, complex atmosphere, fluctuating tilt, irregular rotation speed, arbitrary position in the solar system and so on, it becomes difficult to find a better word to describe it than just that — Perfect,” O’bi tells Billboard. “Especially considering that life upon it couldn’t exist without these exact conditions, and since that life includes our own, born from the dirt of our perfect, yet ‘dirty’ Earth, then why can’t the same be true of us?”

He directs that paradox into the heart of the song, explaining that “the problem is that we’re all perfect because perfect doesn’t mean ‘without flaw.’ But the trouble begins when we turn our gaze at our true selves and try to reconcile that with the self we thought we were.”
The freedom from his revelation allows O’bi to explore the idea of individualism in an inspiring and ultimately uplifting journey that tests his confidence in himself.
