Radio and EDM haven’t always been best friends, but in the past year they’ve been inseparable. Clear Channel’s inaugural iHeartRadio Awards will celebrate all genres of radio music, including dance music and its many hits of the last year. The 10-song EDM Song of the Year category features eight artists with Calvin Harris and Zedd each pulling double nominations. Newcomers Krewella and Baauer also got a nod with ubiquitous Grammy-winners like Daft Punk and Cedric Gervais included too.
As reported earlier today, nominations were determined the new iHeartRadioChart, calculating airplay-based listener feedback and performance data, digital streaming data from the iHeartRadio platform and sales, social video data and tags from song ID apps Big Champagne and Shazam. Each category’s ten nominated songs will be narrowed down to five finalists in the next month with the winner – as determined by fan votes – to be announced on May 1 during an NBC-broadcast award show from the Shrine Auditorium in Downtown Los Angeles.
With the two-round voting system, Harris and Zedd could face themselves in the final vote, or they could cancel each other out entirely. The complete list of EDM nominees is below. Social voting is open now at iheart.com.
