Former Tower Records Japan CEO Keith Cahoon has been appointed to the newly created position of director of iTunes Japan, Billboard has learned.
At press time it was not known to whom Cahoon will report. Industry sources say Cahoon’s appointment, which has not been officially announced, took effect April 1.
After leaving TRJ in July 2003, Cahoon founded Tokyo-based publisher/promotion company Hotwire, which Billboard understands will remain in operation.
Meanwhile, Tokyo-based label Pony Canyon on May 23 became the latest Japanese record company to make its music available on the local version of the iTunes Music Store.
Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) and Warner Music Japan are the only major Japanese labels not to sign deals with iTunes.
