Calle 13, Café Tacvba and Ana Tijoux are among the artists to perform at the inaugural edition of the Los Angeles festival Supersonico, set for Oct. 11 at the Shrine Expo Hall and Grounds in downtown Los Angeles
Billed as a “cultural happening,” the all-day multi-stage event is co-presented by Latin Alternative empresario Tomas Cookman and Coachella promoter Goldenvoice.

“It was key to me that we have some of the most groundbreaking artists out there,” says Cookman, who is the president of label Nacional Records and co-founder of the Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC), which marks its 15-year anniversary in New York City this week (July 8-12), showcasing some of the same artists who will perform at Supersonico.
They included rapper Tijoux from Chile, who is best known in the U.S. for her song “1977,” featured on the “Breaking Bad” soundtrack.
“I know that there is an audience for these artists in Southern California, as we have been selling concert tickets, T-shirts, CDs and vinyl with growing success over the years – all without commercial radio support,” Cookman continues.
Supersonico will be the first Los Angeles date on the high profile Puerto Rican duo Calle 13’s current worldwide “Multi_Viral” tour. Café Tacvba, the Mexican band that is perhaps the most emblematic of the eclectic Latin Alternative genre, last toured the U.S. in 2013.
Tijuana’s Nortec Collective DJs Bostich + Fussible, Venezuelan indie rockers La Vida Boheme, Afro-Colombian hip-hop group Bomba Estéro, Bay Area conscious rappers Los Rakas, and Los Angeles-based artists La Santa Cecilia and Ceci Bastida are also among the performers on the bill.
“We wanted to see something like Coachella happen for the Latin market,” Rebeca León, VP of Latin talent at AEG Live/Goldenvoice, tells Billboard. “We want that kind of music to succeed and give it as many platforms as possible.”
A limited amount of $39.50 pre-sale tickets will be available online at Ticketmaster starting July 10 at Noon pacific time, with the pre-sale password “Shrine”. Pre-sale tickets will also be available for $40 cash, with no service fee, at the Shrine box office. Regular price tickets go on sale Friday July 18 at Noon pacific for $49.50, along with a limited amount of VIP tickets.
