Pop singer-songwriter Cady Groves has been on our radar ever since the chorus of her underrated 2011 single “This Little Girl” included the line “This little girl is capable of murder, if you hurt her.” Groves is no longer a “little girl,” however: the 23-year-old RCA Records artist’s new single, the fizzy “Forget You,” demonstrates a maturation as a songwriter and strengthening as a vocalist that’s been years in the making.
The music video for “Forget You,” which premiered on Idolator hours after the single hit iTunes on Tuesday morning (June 25), finds Groves sharing secrets, playing thumb-war and frolicking in the sand with a particularly cool-looking bro on a cloudy beach day. “This is our bedtime story that we’re gonna tell our kids/And I’ll watch you fall asleep while holding all three, but until then… I won’t forget you,” she sings.
Co-written by Groves and Kristian Lundin, “Forget You” will appear on the soundtrack to “The Smurfs 2,” which also includes her label mate Britney Spears’ latest single “Ooh La La” and will be released on July 23. Her debut album is forthcoming, and hopefully will drop sooner rather than later on RCA.
