Chinese pop star KUN (Cai Xukun) is done with a lover playing “Hard to Get” on his latest single, premiering exclusively on Billboard below.
One of C-pop’s most prominent young stars, KUN’s new ambient trip-hop track is captivating, as the singer-rapper switches between English and Mandarin to expressively relay his emotions. With a hazy melody propelled by his echoing tone and a rhythmic beat, “Hard to Get” is a step away from the dance music the artist has pursued on past songs, like last year’s “Wait Wait Wait,” in favor of something a bit darker and more mature.
KUN rose to prominence in China by being named the winner of the music reality program Idol Producer in 2018 and through his role in boy band Nine Percent. The 20-year-old is one of several Chinese stars turning his focus to the Stateside market, and the release follows the star selling out all of his recent Stateside concert dates.
“Hard to Get” will be released to digital music platforms on Friday at 12 a.m. ET, but for now take a listen to the Billboard exclusive premiere of KUN’s “Hard to Get” here:
