As part of its plan to grow to 20-owned radio stations in the next five years, Latin media company Bustos Media has purchased four stations in Portland, Oregon from Adelante Media. The stations are regional Mexican KGDD-AM (1520 AM); Latin pop KXET AM/FM (93.5 FM); Russian radio and religious music and talk KOOR-AM (1010); and Spanish Christian KRYN-AM (1230).
Once the sale is finalized, pending FCC approval, Bustos will own a total of six stations; the company already owns regional Mexican stations KZZR (94.3 FM) and KPWX (1130 AM) both also in Oregon.
Up until last year, Bustos owned 25 radio stations and three TV stations, but had to forfeit most of them after a restructuring process. However, during the negotiations, Bustos arranged to have the option to purchase the four Portland stations, which the company has been operating since October. Bustos exercised its option to finalize the purchase from Adelante in mid June.
In an interview with Radio Ink, Bustos owner Amador Bustos said minority broadcasters were an “endangered species.”
“I want to establish Bustos Media as a premier small privately owned Spanish language regional broadcast group,” he told Radio Ink.
