Teenage brothers with a cute lead singer and an undeniably catchy pop sound? It’s been a winning equation since long before the Jonas Brothers and Hanson and even before the Jackson 5. In this week’s Mashup Monday, the latest group of up-and-comers in this tradition, Burnham, take on the Killers‘ “Mr. Brightside,” putting a pop-acoustic touch on the decidedly adult, electric rock hit.
The brothers Burnham picked the tune, “number one, because we’re huge Killers fans,” says 14-year-old lead singer Forrest Burnham. Which may sound a little odd coming from someone who was only eight when the song came out in 2004, but believe it or not, he was already a year into being Burnham’s frontman at that point.

“It sounded really cool on the piano,” says 18-year-old Alex Burnham of the Killers track, which went all the way to No. 1 on the Hot 100. “It sounded broken down and like more of an acoustic song as opposed to a pounding rock song, so we decided to do that to it.”
If their upcoming touring mate is any indication, the trio — rounded out by middle brother Andre, 16 — could see chart heights of their own soon. Their first single, “Catch Me If You Can” is only a month old but the boys are already slated to open for, wait for it, Justin Bieber this fall.
