A representative has confirmed to Billboard Dance that New Orleans’ annual Buku Music + Art Festival will not be affected by the reported dissolution of promotion company HUKA Entertainment.
The CEO of HUKA Entertainment, who also promotes Tortuga Music Festival in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, recently left the company. Event database Pollstar received a report of the from an independent agency who said it had to find a new promotion partner for a concert in August because HUKA had disbanded. Pollstar noted that HUKA had been in hot water following the surprising cancellation of its client Pemberton Music Festival earlier this year. The Canadian festival filed for bankruptcy and a 20-page report by Bankruptcy Trustee Ernst & Young found HUKA guilty of mishandling its role of promoter and of having misrepresented the festival’s financial projections.
HUKA is based in New Orleans, the site of its client Buku Music + Arts Festival. A representative for Buku told Billboard, “The festival will continue to be operated in New Orleans as a Winter Circle Productions and AEG Presents event with no affiliation with HUKA.”
Good news for fans of the festival, which has played host to a diverse dance roster, including Avicii, Calvin Harris, Flying Lotus, Cashmere Cat, and more since its inception in 2012. Details of the 2018 event will be coming soon.
