Bug Music, back in growth mode, has acquired the Saban Music Group catalog, which includes themes and background music from cartoons like the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Addams Family Reunion and Princess Sissi. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“We already have a very significant film and TV music/production music catalog so this acquisition is complementary,” says Bug Music CEO John Rudolph. In addition to the above properties, the catalog also includes music from Digimon and Walter Melon properties. In all, it encompasses a slate of theme songs, cues and scores from more than 90 television series, 3,700 television episodes and 100 made-for-television films and specials.
In addition to strengthening Bug Music’s core assets in the worldwide television and film markets, the transaction also furthers the company’s strategy of acquiring copyrights licensable across multiple platforms.
While all the television series get airplay around the world, Rudolph anticipates further significant growth opportunities: Saban Capital Group just re-acquired the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers from the Walt Disney Co. While new films or TV programs could feature all new music, it also could like to a resurgence of broadcast of the older shows and films.
“Bug is focused on opportunities that provide growth for the company, as well as best practices for our film and TV clients across the world,” Rudolph said in a statement. “This deal falls in line with our goals and will benefit our clients in real returns.”
