The excavation of late singer/songwriter Jeff Buckley’s recorded output continues Nov. 26 with Columbia’s release of the five-disc box set “The Grace EPs.” The box will feature five EPs created in conjunction with Buckley’s 1994 Columbia debut “Grace,” two of which were never released commercially. A bonus studio track, “Tongue,” has also been added to one of the EPs; the box sports 14 non-album tracks in all.
The box includes the original artwork for the EPs “Live From the Bataclan,” “The Grace EP” (Australian promo), “Last Goodbye” (Japanese release), “So Real” (Dutch promo), and “Peyote Radio Theatre” (U.S. promo). Buckley’s mother, Mary Guibert, provides liner notes with contributions from Buckley’s band members Mick Grondahl, Michael Tighe, and Matt Johnson.
Featured in the box will be alternate or live versions of album tracks “Dream Brother,” “Hallelujah,” “Grace,” “Mojo Pin,” “Last Goodbye,” and “So Real,” as well as covers of songs by Van Morrison (“The Way Young Lovers Do”) and Big Star (“Kanga-Roo”). Three versions of the title track from “Grace” are included.
The box follows the impending release of “Songs to No One” (Knitting Factory/Evolver), a compilation of previously unreleased tracks featuring Buckley in collaboration with noted guitarist/Gods & Monsters principal Gary Lucas. That set is due Oct. 15.
