BTS’ V is offering fans a reprieve from summer heat with his cozy new song “Winter Bear.”
Released today (Aug. 9, Aug. 10 in South Korea) without any warning, the warm, stirring pop-rock ballad was shared through a music video that followed the South Korean star as he explored a variety of cities in what appear to be clips captured during the group’s recent Love Yourself: Speak Yourself tour
Written by V with BTS collaborators Hiss noise and Adora as well as BTS’ RM, “Winter Bear” features the 23-year-old soulfully using the titular metaphor to describe a good, comforting night’s sleep that he wishes upon the listener.
Throughout the ambient track, he ruminates about wanting good days, and how dark times recede when together. “Imagine your face/ Say hello to me/ Then all the bad days/ They’re nothing to me/ With you,” he sings.
This is V’s second song that he’s written and released this year, coming after January’s “Scenery.” Unlike the former, this song is performed entirely in English. Following its release, V tweeted a set of pictures of himself amid nature, saying, “Here is the person that tried writing lyrics in English for the first time,” adding a variety of hashtags expressing his nervousness and gratitude for RM’s help in working on the song. He also added that he had been tempted to give fans spoilers but held back, and that he wrote the lyrics after watching an English movie.
