MTV announced on Tuesday (Feb. 9) that global K-pop superstars BTS will be the subject of an upcoming MTV Unplugged special.
The Grammy-nominated septet will take the stage from Seoul, South Korea, for a special that will air on Feb. 23 at 9:00 p.m. ET on MTV.
MTV Unplugged Presents: BTS will find the group bringing their own spin on the vaunted franchise, which since 1989 has spotlighted unplugged sets by Nirvana, Tony Bennett, Mariah Carey, Aerosmith, LL Cool J, Bob Dylan, George Michael, Bjork, Lauryn Hill, Jay-Z and many more.
According to a release, the show will offer their fans a “front-row seat to never-before-seen versions of the group’s most career-defining hits and songs from their latest album Be (Essential Edition), in intimate settings.”
Be, which was issued in a deluxe edition in November, hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart, spawning their smash first English-language hit “Dynamite.”
Last month, the colorful outfits BTS wore in their “Dynamite” video were the top-selling items at an event hosted by Julien’s Auctions. The collection of outfits sold for a total of $162,500, more than eight times the amount they were estimated to bring in, according to a press release about the auction benefiting MusiCares.
