Just two days since they completed the sold-out Stateside leg of their Love Yourself: Speak Yourself world tour with a final pair of shows over the weekend at New Jersey’s Metlife Stadium, BTS held a intimate interview with about 200 fans at the iHeartRadio Theater in New York City on Tuesday night (May 21).
In a session hosted by longtime Z100 radio host Elvis Duran, the seven members of the group spent around 45 minutes interacting with fans as they chatted with Duran and showcased their music.
Aired live both on iHeartRadio stations and video platform LivexLive, the event didn’t feature BTS performing much of their own music — though there were several renditions of Alicia Keys’ “New York” and some of RM’s “Intro: Persona” sung — but throughout the night they sang and danced along to songs from their newest album, April’s Map of the Soul: Persona, and “Mic Drop” as the music played over airwaves.
Coming off the tour where they showed off one pristinely choreographed performance after another, iHeartBTS featured the septet enjoying their music along with their multitude of ARMY in attendance, playing around with one another and fans as they vibed to the beat of their own songs — and were even joined for “Boy With Luv” by collaborator Halsey, who surprised the act halfway through the session.

Throughout the event, BTS took some time to talk about some collaborators they’d like to work with, including Drake, Lil Nas X, and Coldplay, and the new album, with Suga and Jimin saying that “HOME” is their favorite song while J-Hope added that “Mikrokosmos” is his and RM’s was his solo track. A comment about how “Dionysus” is the hardest song to dance to resulted in V serving up a brief performance of the song’s boisterous, alcohol-themed chorus, with Jungkook chiming in with a refrain of “Drinking, drinking, drinking,” translating the original lyrics from Korean into English to the delight of the crowd.
The group also spoke about their habits, sharing fun facts out there like Jimin being the member who sleeps the latest, their love of ARMY, and a handful of other topics. BTS also spent a moment commenting on how their favorite color is purple, which is associated with their fandom ARMY. They excitedly exclaimed over the fact that the Empire State Building was lit up that night in celebration of them.
While the iconic New York building was already set to turn purple in commemoration of New York University’s graduation — which also occurred on Tuesday — the South Korean band was honored with a purple sparkle effect appearing hourly throughout the night, according to the Empire State Building’s website. Though brief, the iHeartBTS event trended worldwide on Twitter throughout the night, only to be replaced later in the evening when the group appeared on The Voice‘s finale, where they performed “Boy With Luv.”
